Saturday’s reports suggest that Simone Inzaghi could make several changes to his Inter side for Sunday’s Serie A match against Venezia, as the Nerazzurri prepare for a midweek visit from Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Three potential Inter changes ahead of Arsenal in Champions League
According to multiple outlets, leading goalscorer Marcus Thuram could be afforded a rest against Venezia, and is most likely to be replaced by Mehdi Taremi. The Frenchman is expected to return to the starting line-up for the midweek European test.
Goalkeeper Josep Martinez could also be in line for a start in Serie A, which would mean the Yachine Trophy-nominated Yann Sommer dropping to the bench against Venezia.
There are some question marks over Inzaghi’s potential selections in midfield. Hakan Calhanoglu is set to be available for the first time since the 1-0 win over Roma earlier in October, but there are still doubts over Kristjan Asllani’s availability.
As the go-to deputy for Calhanoglu, Asllani would be the natural choice if Inzaghi decided to save the Turk for the Arsenal game, but in the event that the coach doesn’t play either of them against Venezia, Piotr Zielinski or Nicolo Barella would likely fill in at the base of the midfield.
