As you know, Seiya Suzuki suffered a knee injury during the World Baseball Classic.

Here is how that injury happened [VIDEO].

It’s still not clear to me exactly how that injury happened. Fortunately for Suzuki and the Cubs, it was a MCL injury and not an ACL. The latter might have required surgery. Instead, Suzuki missed four weeks and after a rehab assignment during which he went 6-for-14 with two doubles for Double-A Knoxville, he is being activated from the 10-day injured list and will be available for today’s game at Wrigley Field against the Pirates.

To make room on the 26-man active roster for Suzuki, outfielder Dylan Carlson was designated for assignment.

Carlson got significant playing time in Spring Training — 20 games, 57 plate appearances — but played in just three of the 12 games so far, starting just once and overall going 0-for-4 with one run scored. This move will leave Michael Conforto as the team’s primary backup outfielder.

In addition, reliever Phil Maton has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee tendinitis and right-hander Ethan Roberts has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

As always, we await further developments. Today’s game preview will post at 11:30 a.m. CT.
