Continuing a legacy on Daniel Island, the Charleston Open returns for its 26th consecutive year this week in South Carolina.
The Charleston Open began in 1973 on Hilton Head Island, and now serves as the largest women’s-only professional tennis tournament in North America. Charleston is recognized as a WTA 500 event and, beginning this year, will award equal prize money to comparable ATP 500 events.
This tournament has featured some of the biggest names in women’s tennis, from Venus and Serena Williams to Steffi Graf and beyond. In 2025, Jessica Pegula won it all, and she has received the top seed in the draw this year. Ekaterina Alexandrova, Belinda Bencic and Iva Jovic follow her up.
