The Atlanta Falcons announced on Thursday that the team has signed former Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson to a deal in free agency:
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa by the Green Bay Packers, the 25-year-old running back had spent the last three seasons in Indianapolis, having been initially signed to their practice squad in September of 2023 and subsequently, activated to their 53-man active roster.

The 5,’9”, 197 pound running back had 54 total carries for 264 total rushing yards (4.9 ypc. avg.) and a rushing touchdown, as well as 19 receptions for 103 total receiving yards (5.4 ypc. avg.) and a touchdown reception during his 33 career games (1 start) with the Colts from 2023-25.
Playing behind star workhorse Jonathan Taylor in the Colts backfield, Goodson was largely deployed as the rotational third down running back and receiving scatback within head coach Shane Steichen’s offense—providing speed, acceleration, and burst as a ball carrier, with his smaller size.
With veteran Ameer Abdullah also a free agent, the Colts could see revamped backfield depth for 2026, as right now, it’s just 2nd-year pro DJ Giddens and Ulysses Bentley IV behind Taylor right now. One would have to reasonably figure that the Colts could seek out a veteran pass catcher again at running back for a modest price—or maybe even look for a cost-efficient replacement for Goodson/Abdullah in the later rounds of the NFL Draft.
