Women’s junior flyweight boxer Isis Sio has been placed in a medically induced coma. She was knocked out in the first round of her bout against Jocelyn Camarillo on Saturday, March 21. 

Sio, 19, was competing in just her fourth career boxing match, entering the fight with a 1-2 record at the time. She had been knocked out in her last fight, but it was from body punches. 

After she was knocked out, Sio instantly received medical attention. When it was obvious she would need more care, she was put on a stretcher and helped to the back before being transported to a local hospital.

Isis Sio knockout updates

The fight was held as part of a ProBoxTV event in San Bernardino, California. Sio was knocked out after repeated shots to the head. While she was stretchered out, she was seen convulsing, per ESPN. Sio was transferred to Loma Linda University Health Medical Center for further treatment. 

ProBoxTV released the following statement after the fight.

“On behalf of CEO Garry Jonas and the entire ProBox family we are praying for a speedy recovery for Isis Sio. Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time.”

What is a medically induced coma?

A medically induced coma is a “controlled coma in a medical setting to help the brain rest,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.

It is caused by doctors using anesthetics to protect the brain because a medically induced coma is used to allow the brain to rest and to control intracranial pressure. Medically induced comas typically last between one and three days.

Sio is 19 years old according to her profile on BoxRec, though a specific birthday is not listed. She made her boxing debut on September 19, 2025.
