After the NASCARCup Series Pennzoil 400, fans wondered whether any penalties might be handed down. The star incident of the race was a slippery slide by Ross Chastain, pushing him into Daniel Suarez, which fueled a post-race altercation. On top of this, NASCAR also sent the No. 20 of Christopher Bell and the No. 43 of Erik Jones to NASCAR’s R&D center.
As we reach mid-week, it looks like all drivers are clear of any penalty. NASCAR generally releases penalties on Tuesday afternoon following the race, if applicable. No news means all-clear.

Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez
The headlining incident of the day was an altercation between Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez on pit road. Late in the race, Chastain would slide up the track, squeezing a run of Suarez. Post-race, the duo would tap each other hastily. The former teammates, who had a mixed relationship, went at it verbally post-race, nearly coming to blows.
Having avoided any physicality beyond a push, no driver is penalized. However, we will keep a keen eye on this week’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington to see if any angry racing may occur between Chastain and Suarez.

Pre-Race Penalties
Before the Pennzoil 400, penalties were handed down to the teams of Austin Cindric, Ty Dillon, AJ Allmendinger, and William Byron; all four teams failed the pre-race inspection twice, thus losing pit selection and their car chief assignments.
Pit Road Speeding Penalties
Chase Briscoe, Justin Allgaier, Denny Hamlin, Ty Gibbs, Josh Berry, Todd Gilliland, and Carson Hocevar all endured pit road speeding penalties at one point in the race. Hamlin rebounded quite well, winning the race.

Briscoe was then additionally penalized on lap 85, stopping in Ty Gibbs’ pit box to tighten a wheel. Briscoe also rebounded quite well, earning an 8th-place finish.
