PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — There are 123 players in the field at this week’s 2026 Players Championship, which means there are 123 different ways PGA Tour pros will prep for one of the biggest events of the year.
For three-time winner Ben Griffin, he experimented with a line less traveled.

One of the biggest stories ahead of last year’s Players was the return of a tree that presides over the front of the sixth tee box, forcing players to hit a lower-trajectory shot to the fairway on the par-4 hole. It was met with plenty of mixed reviews, but the tree remained and is again in play ahead of the 2026 edition.
Griffin, however, posted on social media a unique line he took during a practice round Monday.
Griffin aims well left of the fairway, with his start line over the lake between the sixth and seventh holes. He proceeds to hit a towering cut shot that eventually ends back up in the middle of the fairway.

Will he, or any other player, actually attempt this during a round? Probably not. But you can’t rule it out, especially since he proved players can do it and hit the fairway. However, if the shot isn’t hit perfectly, it could result in a disaster from trying to do too much.
