A brief stoppage in play occurred during Saturday’s game between Ole Miss and Oklahoma when a squirrel ran onto the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, which ended in the squirrel running about 15 yards as field personnel tried to shoo it away. The incident occurred late in the first quarter during an injury timeout.

With the game tied at 7-7, the injury timeout was almost complete when the squirrel ran onto the field and nestled at the 17-yard line, forcing a brief stoppage in order to get the stray animal out of the field of play. Upon being approached by field personnel, the squirrel took off running and went into the endzone — to the delight of the crowd who roared in approval — before harmlessly scampering away.

The squirrel running onto the field and being ushered off occurred just after Oklahoma had gotten on the board to tie the game, with an 11-yard pass from Jackson Arnold to Bauer Sharp evening the contest at 7-7. Ole Miss would go on to win the game 26-14, giving them their first win over Oklahoma since the Sooners joined the SEC.
