Eric Comrie in his two seasons with the Buffalo Sabres failed to live up to expectations. The 29-year-old battled injuries, served as the third goalie last year, cleared waivers, briefly played in Rochester, and then was used sparingly as the club’s backup down the stretch once the Sabres sent Devon Levi down to the AHL and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen took over as the primary starter.

Over the summer, the 29-year-old netminder returned to Winnipeg, where he spent four seasons in two separate stints and put up his career-best performance in 2021-22. Comrie saw his first action on Sunday against Pittsburgh and made 39 saves in a 6-3 win over the Penguins.

Another former Sabre, Sam Reinhart, added to his list of honors this season by being named NHL First Star of the Week. Reinhart picked up the slack for the injured Aleksander Barkov by posting nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in four games and is currently second in NHL scoring with 12 points.

Former Sabres captain Jack Eichel is seventh in NHL scoring with 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in six games.
