The Yankees made a change to their ALCS roster on Friday with reliever Mark Leiter Jr. replacing reliever Ian Hamilton who left Game 3 with calf tightness.
The move means Hamilton would be ineligible to play in the World Series so the right-hander’s season has come to an end.
Hamilton entered Thursday night’s game in the sixth inning but recorded only one out. After leading off the inning walking a batter, Hamilton induced a ground ball to first base and injured himself after covering the bag to get the out.
He was scheduled to get an MRI on Friday.
The 29-year-old missed some time earlier this season with a right lat strain and pitched in just 35 games, owning a 3.82 ERA. In two postseason appearances Hamilton had a 5.40 ERA in 1.2 innings.
Leiter came over to New York this season in a deadline trade with the Chicago Cubs. He pitched in 21 games for the Yanks and had a 4.98 ERA (1.71 WHIP) after pitching to a 4.21 ERA (1.10 WHIP) in Chicago.
The 33-year-old was not on New York’s ALDS roster against the Kansas City Royals and will be playing in the postseason for the first time in his career.
