The Toronto Blue Jays won the American League East over the New York Yankees during the regular season and then defeated their division rivals in a quick four games in the AL Division Series.

That is how a team earns the right to troll, and troll the Blue Jays did.

Following Wednesday’s 5-2 win in Game 4, Toronto played Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York as part of its locker-room celebration. It is famously the song that is played in Yankee Stadium when the Bronx Bombers clinch a win:

Despite losing the first two games in Toronto, the Yankees had momentum heading into Wednesday’s contest after they overcame a 6-1 deficit in Game 3. Aaron Judge’s monster three-run homer that tied Game 3 and set up the comeback seemed like it might be a turning point in the series.

However, the Blue Jays had other ideas.

Rather than risk a win-or-go-home Game 5, Toronto put things away on the road. Nathan Lukes went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while George Springer, Guerrero and Myles Straw drove in the other runs.

But it was the pitching that was the story for the victors.

The Blue Jays used eight different pitchers, none of whom threw more than 1.2 innings, and silenced New York’s powerful offense. That group combined for 10 strikeouts while allowing just two earned runs and six hits to clinch a spot in the American League Championships Series.

Toronto will play either the Detroit Tigers or Seattle Mariners, but first it got to troll the Yankees.
