RAPID CITY — A bid for a third-straight state Class AA boys golf championship didn’t get off to a good start for Watertown on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025.
The Arrows opened with a 36-over par 324 and were in eighth place with 18 holes of play remaining on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Harrisburg shot a 7-over 295 and led O’Gorman by four shots in the team race.
Other team scores included Sioux Falls Lincoln (307); Brandon Valley (310); Yankton (311); Brookings and Mitchell (319); Tea Area, Sioux Falls Jefferson and Sioux Falls Roosevelt (329); Sioux Falls Washington (331); Spearfish and Rapid City Stevens (333); Aberdeen Central (341); Pierre (346); Rapid City Central (351) and Sturgis (354).
Taten Mauney of O’Gorman grab a four-shot lead in the individual standings with a 4-under 68.
Others in the top 10 include Gavin Weir of Harrisburg (72); Charlie Swift of Harrisburg (73); Max Krenik of Sioux Falls Lincoln (74); Jackson Burns of Brandon Valley, Jayden Antonen of O’Gorman, Riley Christensen and Connor Tark of Harrisburg and Easton Vellek of Yankton (75); and Gavin Schlekeway of Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Tyson Lunn of Brookings and Brody Hermann of Sioux Falls Lincoln (76).
Max Stemwedel and Gavin Neyens each carded 80s and are tied for 29th for Watertown. Johnathan Lake and Jerome Zebroski each opened with 82s, Carter Buisker 83 and Ashton Rabine 84.
Cole Brust shot a 79 (tied for 24th) to lead Aberdeen Central. Jackson Ravellette was next with an 82.
The top six teams and 24 golfers each medal.
State A Boys Golf
VERMILLION — Defending champion Dakota Valley and Hayden Heig of St. Thomas More each grabbed opening-day leads in the state Class A boys golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillon.
Dakota Valley shot a 3-over 291 and will take a six-shot led over Vermillion (297) into the final 18 holes of play on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Other team scores include St. Thomas More (311), Aberdeen Roncalli (327), Sioux Falls Christian (328), West Central (336), Chamberlain (337), Parkston (339), Tri-Valley (344), Winner and Madison (355), Sioux Valley (356), Custer (360), Mount Vernon-Plankinton (368), Rapid City Christian (370), Hot Springs (371) and Belle Fourche (371).
Heig, the son of former Watertown golfer Nick Heig, holds a two-shot lead over Matt DeBeer of Dakota Valley and Landon Weber of Parkston.
Rounding out the top 10 are Tate Cornelsen of Dakota Valley (72); Jack Johnson of Vermillion (73); Trey Hansen and Jeran Carr of Vermillion, Atticus Slater and Sean Meiske of Dakota Valley and Carson Steffensen of Canton (74).
The top six teams and 25 individuals medal.
Area golfers in the top 25 include Finn Anderson (76) and Lucas Daggett (77) of Roncalli and Damon Uecker of Sioux Valley (80).
