When the NASCAR Cup Series resumes Sunday afternoon, Bubba Wallace will be racing to keep his playoff hopes alive.

Last Sunday, the 31-year-old driver for 23XI Racing was in contention to pick up a much-needed win on Sunday at Kansas Speedway. However, he brushed against the wall during the final lap of overtime. That's because he made contact with Denny Hamlin near Turn 3. When the dust settled, it was Chase Elliott who captured the checkered flag.

Former NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick said Hamlin broke an unwritten rule during last Sunday's race.

“I’ve been in a position where Denny Hamlin is in currently where you drive for another team and you own cars. And it’s really, really difficult because if he doesn’t drive in there and try to win the race and do what he did, his team is gonna be mad. When it worked out the way that it did, the only rule he broke is one of you better win,” Harvick said, via On3. “One of you better win and it took both teams out of contention, and they handed a gimme to Chase Elliott. They had everything under control. That’s kind of the unwritten rule — if you’re going to bang doors with your teammate and you’re going to do all those things, you better make sure one of you wins the race. I know they’re not technically teammates, but they might as well be with the way this all goes.”

Is there bad blood between Hamlin and Wallace?

During this Saturday's media availability, Wallace revealed that he had a chat with Hamlin at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Despite what transpired on the track, there's no beef between these two competitors.

“It’s definitely a somber week for sure. I hate that it got to this point. The lingering effect, but Denny and I just talked 30 minutes ago. And it was a good heart-to-heart conversation. Came from a place of peace. Went better than I thought it would. He shared his side of things, and I shared mine, and we had common ground," Wallace said, via On3. "I told him, and it was kind of funny because I kind of sent him on a detour when I said, because I said, you can go first. Then he started talking, and five seconds in, I said, ‘Just so you know, I’m not mad about getting fenced, going for the win.’ And his eyes were like, oh, well, I need a second to reposition where I’m going to go.

"Just so we’re all clear on that, like, that’s not going to be the last time that I’m battling for a win and it doesn’t go away in that sort of fashion. Whether that’s Denny or anybody in the field. But I’ll be a little gracious here and say that 95% of people on this side of the catchfence, look at that move as ‘Oof,’ right? ‘Oof!’ That’s it. While the other 5%, whether they’re buddies or whatever, they don’t care. They see the other side of."

That's a mature way of looking at things, that's for sure.

Wallace is currently 26 points below the cut line for the Round of 8. We'll see if he's got a miracle in him this Sunday.
