The Florida Panthers are finalizing a contract extension that will keep defenseman Niko Mikkola in Sunrise through at least the 2029-30 season, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reported Thursday.
The Panthers could announce Mikkola’s extension “as soon as this week,” according to Kaplan.
Mikkola, 29, signed with the Panthers in 2023 and went on to win two straight Stanley Cups while mostly playing on the team’s second defense pairing.
Florida is preparing to start the season without star forwards Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov, who will both be sidelined for months after undergoing respective surgeries.
