The Indianapolis Colts placed cornerback Xavien Howard on the reserve/retired list, the team announced Wednesday.
Howard, 32, has surprisingly decided to end his nine-season career, just three days after playing 66 defensive snaps in a Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He started all four games this season for the 3-1 Colts.

The four-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL interceptions leader joined Indianapolis as a free agent in August. Howard spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Miami Dolphins.
