Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson gave quarterback Caleb Williams some quick encouragement before the offense embarked on a pivotal possession in Sunday’s 25-24 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

“This is what you’re built for,” Williams told his QB in the fourth quarter.

Williams marched the team 69 yards down the field over 11 plays. The drive culminated in a two-yard touchdown run by D’Andre Swift to put Chicago ahead.

Johnson’s motivational speech seems to have had an impact.

“In that moment, Ben came over to me right before, and he goes, ‘These are times that you’re made for.’ So, he provided belief and confidence that he has in me,” Williams said. “And then from there, I went to the huddle and looked everybody in the eyes: ‘This is the moment. This is where we go win the game.'”

Williams didn’t necessarily have a great game as he finished 22-of-37 for 212 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He also had a pair of fumbles he recovered.

Coming away with the victory is what matters, though, and the second-year QB showed a lot of poise at a critical point in the contest. He completed five of his six passes on the go-ahead drive.

A Week 5 bye doesn’t come at an ideal time for the Bears because the momentum from their back-to-back wins could stall a bit.

But there’s plenty from the last two games at Chicago’s coaches can cite as signs of progress as they prepare for a tough Week 6 test against the Washington Commanders.
