Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams told Bruce Feldman of The Athletic that he deleted all the social media apps off his phone after he realized he was spending 11 hours per day on his cell.

“Last summer, to try to help better himself—and his siblings—Williams deleted all of the social media apps off his phone. Though social media has its benefits for NIL purposes, he didn’t like the distraction,” Feldman wrote.

“One day in the summer, while they were having a family group chat, Williams noted that one of his sisters had spent 18 hours that day online.”

Williams spoke on the matter: “I said, ‘Did you sleep?’ She was averaging like 15 hours a day. Mine was like 11,” he said. “I realized how much time I was wasting. It was like two hours worth of TikTok. Another hour and a half of Instagram. Most of it was messages and emails. Since I deleted social media, I average like four hours.”

Williams certainly isn’t alone in spending countless hours per day on social media. He’s among many people who do so. Credit to him for curtailing that, though, as social media usage can certainly erase many hours of the day.

The 18-year-old Williams is in his second season at Alabama. Last year, Williams caught 48 passes for 865 yards and eight touchdowns.

This year, Williams missed a game after suffering a concussion in the season opener against Florida State. Thankfully, Williams is healthy and back on the field. He dominated Wisconsin in his first game back, catching five passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Alabama had a bye week but will now visit No. 5 Georgia. Williams crushed the Bulldogs last year, catching six passes for 177 yards and a score in a 41-34 win.

Kickoff on Saturday in Athens is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
