Ryder Cup updates: Thursday at Bethpage Black

What is the Thursday schedule at Bethpage? It’s changed a bit from its original plan. The Opening Ceremon was to be Thursday but that got moved to Wednesday evening to avoid potential bad weather. In addition, the final day of the 2025 Junior Ryder Cup, which is the pivotal singles matches, will not be played at Bethpage afterall. Instead, the event will conclude at Nassau Country Club, where it started on Tuesday.

As for Thursday, the plan now is for a series of media sessions with the European team starting at 8 a.m. ET. The U.S. team will gather for its team photo at 9:15 a.m. ET and head off the 10th tee at 10 a.m. ET for a pratice round. The European team follows off the 10th tee at 11 a.m. ET for its practice round. Also scheduled is a series of U.S. team player interviews.

When are the Friday morning matches announced?

The big thing many will look forward to on Thursday is the 4 p.m. media session with the two Ryder Cup captains, who will announce their pairings for the Friday morning foursomes matches. Each side will send out four pairs (and leaving four golfers out of the first session) in the first wave Friday.

2025 Ryder Cup competition schedule

Competition at the biennial bash between a 12-member American squad against a 12-member European team starts Friday. There are morning foursomes and afternoon fourballs the first two days. Then, the event features 12 singles matches on Sunday.

What is the Ryder Cup format?

The Ryder Cup uses three formats over the three days of competition: foursomes (also called alternate shot), fourballs (also known as better ball) and singles. There are morning foursomes and afternoon fourballs on Friday and Saturday. Eight of the 12 players on each side will compete in those matches. On Sunday, it’s singles. All 12 players will compete in these 1-on-1 matches.

Who’s playing in the Ryder Cup?

The 12 Americans: Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English, Ben Griffin, Russell Henley, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Cameron Young.

The 12 Europeans: Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Hojgaard, Viktor Hovland, Shane Lowry, Robert MacIntyre, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose and Sepp Straka.

Who are the captains for the Ryder Cup?

Keegan Bradley leads the U.S. team at Bethpage, while Luke Donald, the victorious captain two years ago in Rome, returns to lead Europe. Each side has five vice captains.

Where is the 2025 Ryder Cup?

The Black Course at Bethpage State Park is the host venue. It previously hosted two U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship. It was recently awarded the 2028 KPMG Women’s PGA as well as the 2033 PGA.
