Jon Moxley beat Darby Allin in a coffin match at AEW All Out in Toronto on Saturday.
Allin appeared to be in firm control during the latter stages of the bout until Pac made a surprise return from injury, zipped Allin into a body bag and placed him into the coffin, allowing Moxley to close the lid.
The issues between Mox and Allin date back nearly a full year, as Moxley defeated Darby for his guaranteed AEW World Championship opportunity at Grand Slam in September 2024, and used it to beat and retire Bryan Danielson.
Allin was among those who attempted to save Danielson from an attack at the hand of Moxley and The Death Riders after Mox won the title at WrestleDream, and that made Darby public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of the group.
A couple of months later, The Death Riders jumped Allin and threw him down a stairwell, writing him off AEW programming for nearly seven months in the process.
In actuality, Allin needed the time off in order to complete a climb of Mt. Everest, which he did successfully.
At All In: Texas in July, Moxley put the AEW world title on the line in the main event against “Hangman” Adam Page in a Texas Death Match, which featured tons of interference on the behalf of both stars.
Allin made his return on the show, and he was among those who helped Page beat Mox and end his 273-day title reign.
Given his disdain for Moxley and The Death Riders, it came as little surprise that Allin was part of the babyface team that contested Mox, Claudio Castagnoli, Gabe Kidd and The Young Bucks in a five-on-five lights out cage match at Forbidden Door.
Allin, Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi came out on top, but The Death Riders got the last laugh by viciously attacking Ospreay afterward.
On the Aug. 27 episode of Dynamite, Allin beat Claudio in a Falls Count Anywhere match and also laid down a challenge to Mox for All Out. Wheeler Yuta turned down the challenge on Moxley’s behalf, but the bout was eventually made official anyway with the coffin match stipulation.
Allin has been a thorn in the side of Moxley and The Death Riders for quite some time, but by virtue of Saturday’s triumph, Mox finally got some retribution.
