Chase Elliott’s NASCAR playoff run took a hit at the NASCAR Bristol race on Sept. 13 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Elliott sustained substantial damage to his front end of his No. 9 Chevrolet on Lap 311 in Stage 3 of the Bass Pro Shops Night Race. The wreck occurred when Elliott appeared to cut down in front of John Hunter Nemechek, who was getting pushed into the corner by Denny Hamlin.
“Tell (Elliott) I’m sorry,” Nemechek told his spotter. “I got run over.”
Elliott came into his pit, and his car was later pushed behind the wall. His car was leaking significant amount of fluid.
Elliott was two spots above the playoff cutline. But a new winner from those below the cutline (namely, Alex Bowman) could cut him from advancing to the Round of 12.
Chase Briscoe, who won at Darlington to open the playoffs, is currently leading the race.
