Austin FC fought back to earn their second win in as many recent outings during a 2-1 comeback win at Sporting Kansas City, as the race to qualify for postseason football rages on.

Scorers: Joveljić 16′ (pen); Wolff 37′, Fodrey 82′

SKC got off to the start they desired in front of home fans at Children’s Mercy Park when star striker Dejan Jovelić opened up the scoring in the 16th minute, with the former LA Galaxy frontman calmly dispatching his penalty into the bottom corner to bank his 17th goal of the 2025 MLS season.

That strike saw the Serbian jump into sole possession of third place in the race for the Golden Boot, but his opener would be cancelled out twenty minutes later thanks to Austin’s Owen Wolff.

Amid a fine run of goalscoring form, the son of USMNT cult hero Josh Wolff sublimely brought down a ball over the top from Guilherme Biro before expertly slotting home past John Pulskamp to make it five goals in his last seven appearances.

Each side would craft glorious chances to find a second on the night, but it would be Austin who would complete the reversal inside the final ten minutes of action.

A ball to the near post from Owen Wolff’s corner was met by CJ Fodrey’s glancing header at the near post to put the visitors in front in the 82nd minute, sealing all three points while cementing Austin’s push for an appearance in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Sporting KC will now need a miracle to reach the postseason as they sit 13th in the Western Conference and eight points adrift of the top-nine spots.
