Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are building a modern-day tennis rivalry as the best two male players in the sport. The two young stars have won each of the last six majors and seven of the last eight, proving to be the heirs to the previous era.

Almost two years apart in age, both Alcaraz and Sinner are entering the primes of their careers and will surely play each other many times in the foreseeable future. Just like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic prior, Alcaraz and Sinner are must-see TV whenever they play each other.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have played each other 15 times in their career, dating back to their first meeting in 2021. During that stretch, Alcaraz has the edge with a 10-5 record.

Of these matchups, nine came on hard court, four on clay and two on grass so far. The Italian and the Spaniard have each excelled on all surfaces, though, making each matchup intriguing regardless of the location.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner head-to-head Grand Slams record

In Grand Slam tournaments only, Alcaraz has a 4-2 advantage. The most notable match was when the two played a classic at Roland Garros in 2025, when Alcaraz came from behind to defeat Sinner in a French Open final classic.

Sinner responded in style, coming from behind to beat Alcaraz in four sets in the Wimbledon final the following month, ending his rival’s hopes of three successive titles at SW19.

2022 Wimbledon

In 2022, Alcaraz and Sinner were two young stars when they met for the first time at a major during the Wimbledon Championship Round of 16. Both players were rising in the sport and primed to show that they belonged on the big stage.

Sinner came out on top in that match 6-1, 6-4, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3. While Sinner would go on to lose to Novak Djokovic in the following round, this proved to be one of his first big wins.

2022 U.S. Open

Alcaraz and Sinner met a few months later, still looking for their first Grand Slam when they played in the U.S. Open quarterfinals. Alcaraz was ranked No. 4 in the world at just 19 years old while Sinner was No. 13 at 21 years of age.

This was a five-set match where Sinner took the second and third sets in a tiebreak, but Alcaraz won the final two to win the match. The score ended up as 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-7 (0-7), 7-5, 6-3 as Alcaraz advanced, on his way to his first Grand Slam tournament victory.

2024 French Open

Two years later, Alcaraz and Sinner met in the French Open semifinals, with Sinner coming off his first Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open. Neither player had won the French Open at that point, but after Novak Djokovic withdrew due to injury, it opened up the golden opportunity for both.

This match was also a close five-setter, as Alcaraz won 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The Spaniard once again showed his endurance as his major experience was on full display.

2025 French Open

The most notable match was when the two played a classic at Roland Garros in 2025 while representing the previous five major winners. In this match, the first between the two at a major final, Alcaraz came from behind to defeat Sinner in a French Open classic.

Sinner won the first two sets and appeared on his way to his first ever French Open title, but Alcaraz won the last three sets, two of which came in tiebreaks, and that included fending off triple-championship point. The match was extremely tight, as Alcaraz won 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2).

2025 Wimbledon

After ceding the first set from a break up, Sinner would have been forgiven for thinking the writing was on the wall against his familiar foe.

But the Italian got into his irresistible groove and errors started to flow from Alcaraz’s racquet. Unlike in Paris a month earlier, there was no way back and Sinner powered through relentlessly to win 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4.

Carlos Alcaraz has six career Grand Slam titles, with two Wimbledon championships, two French Open titles and two U.S. Open victories. He won his first major at the 2022 U.S. Open, then won back-to-back Wimbledons in 2023 and 2024 and back-to-back French Opens at 2024 and 2025. He got his second at Flushing Meadows in 2025.

Jannik Sinner Grand Slam titles

Jannik Sinner has four majors so far in his career. The Italian won his first slam at the 2024 Australian Open, then after taking the 2024 U.S. Open, he repeated as champion at the 2025 Australian Open. Wimbledon 2025 was his first major away from hard courts.
