Bobby Dale Earnhardt hasn’t competed in the ARCA Menards Series since the 2017 season, but he is making a surprise return next weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The 38-year-old is the grandson of seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Dale Earnhardt, the nephew of two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr., the son of former racer Kerry Earnhardt, and older brother to current NASCAR driver, Jeffrey Earnhardt.
He’s also a fourth-generation racer, going all the way back to his great-grandfather, Ralph Earnhardt.
Earnhardt has three previous ARCA starts, finishing as high as 19th. He also made seven starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series between 2017 and 2019, placing as high as 27th at Kansas Speedway.
He revealed the news in a social media post on Monday, which was also his 38th birthday: “I’m excited to share that I’ll be racing in the ARCA Menards Series at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 11! This will be my first ARCA race at Bristol and I couldn’t be more excited to take on ‘The Last Great Colosseum.’
“We’ve still got a few sponsor spots open, and they’re set up to be very affordable so that anyone from local businesses to friends can be part of this race.
Earnhardt went on to say that the team he’s driving for and the sponsor that is funding this effort will be revealed later in the week.
His younger brother Jeffrey is the most recent Earnhardt to compete in one of the national levels of stock car racing, running two Xfinity Series races earlier this year with Sam Hunt Racing.
