All 32 teams had to trim their rosters down to 53 players by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and the Jets made a notable cut, releasing wide receiver Malachi Corley, a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft who failed to make an impact.

In nine games last season, Corley had three receptions for 16 yards.

In addition to waiving 19 players, the Jets placed two players on injured reserve – veteran defensive tackle Byron Cowart and rookie free agent linebacker Ja'Markis Weston (designated for return) – and wide receiver Irv Charles on reserve/physically unable to perform.

New York also released cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse, safety Jordan Clark, and defensive end Eric Watts.

Of those three players, the mild surprise is Bernard-Converse.

The 25-year-old, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft, played 15 games in two seasons for Gang Green.

The Jets have a relatively loaded secondary, which ultimately led to Bernard-Converse getting squeezed out.

Undrafted free agent WR Jamaal Pritchett was also among those released. The Jets' punt returner job will go to third-year WR Xavier Gipson, who is on the initial roster.

In addition to Gipson, FB Andrew Beck, LB Zaire Barnes, OL Marquis Hayes, DE Braiden McGregor, and DT Leonard Taylor are all on the first roster of the season.
