Arsenal have made their move for Eberechi Eze, with the England international eager to join from Crystal Palace, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Discussions over the 27-year-old’s future had initially centred around Tottenham Hotspur, with talks held between Palace chairman Steve Parish and counterpart Daniel Levy in recent days.

Spurs had reached the conditions of a deal with both Palace and the player, but Arsenal’s interest has now shifted the picture, particularly following the knee injury sustained by Kai Havertz.

Negotiations are underway between Arsenal and Palace, with the north London side indicating a willingness to meet the terms that Spurs had agreed.

Eze is understood to favour a switch to the Emirates Stadium, leaving Tottenham to weigh up alternative attacking targets.

Palace had delayed finalising any transfer as they wanted Eze available for Thursday’s Europa Conference League play-off against Fredrikstad.

Yet with Arsenal moving decisively, the attacking midfielder appears set for a high-profile move after four years at Selhurst Park.

Eze, who grew up an Arsenal supporter and spent time in the club’s academy, is keen to take the next step in his career. Palace accept that he merits a top-level opportunity, particularly after a strong finish to last season.

The midfielder scored nine goals in his final 13 matches, including the winner in the FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City and a strike in the 2-2 draw at the Emirates.

Should the transfer be completed, Eze would add to Mikel Arteta’s already bolstered attack. Arsenal have brought in Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP for €63.5m and secured Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a £48.5m move earlier this summer, while teenage prospect Ethan Nwaneri has committed his long-term future to the club.

With Arsenal’s willingness to meet Palace’s demands and the player’s desire to return to north London, a deal now looks increasingly likely, potentially handing Arteta another major attacking option ahead of the new campaign.
