Rickie Fowler is generally one of the more chill golfers on the PGA Tour, but weeks long hate messages from an online troll had the 36-year-old golfer ready to hit back at the conclusion of this weekend’s BMW Championship.
Fowler ended up missing the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings by two spots after tying for seventh on Sunday with a 7-under performance at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, MD.
The Oklahoma State alum was in a good spot through 13 holes on Sunday. However, a bogey and double-bogey on 14 and 15 ultimately did him in and ended his summer in Baltimore County.
“Obviously bummed,” Fowler said of his final round. “I knew what I needed to do. Really just made a poor swing. I just needed to give myself a little bit more time and get fully committed to what I was trying to do.”
“Eight-iron into 14, I hung it out, left it out right. Really don’t feel the breeze down there in the fairway, and just got my start line out to the right too much, and I had the ball below my feet,” he explained. “A few variables. So bummer on that one.”
After Fowler finished up at the clubhouse, he ended up revealing a slew of NSFW messages that he’d been receiving since at least the beginning of August — and rarely do we see the former PGA Rookie of the Year take on this kind of tone on social media.
Rickie goes off on Instagram
Taking to his Instagram Story yesterday, Rickie shared a screenshot of some of the incredibly gross messages he’d been receiving from a user named “@cliffcalson90.”
Including one that read: “Retarded loser f—ot, imagine how embarrassed your family probably is of you. Hahahahahahaha you’re a f—ing loser retire from golf.”
“Cliff, or whoever you are, you know where to find me, and I’d love to see you face to face,” Fowler wrote back. “You’re the one hiding behind your little fake account… I’m sure your significant others are so thrilled with how you’ve done in life…enjoy your Sunday evening.”

Rickie followed that up with another Story that said: “Great seeing all the replies… love you guys … We typically ignore the hate but figured I’d give you a taste for fun.”
“Unfortunately there is a very small percentage of people who have to do/say certain things to make themselves feel better… we are all better than that… I was always taught treat others how you want to be treated and if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t. Pretty simple… much love 😘”
