There’s no relationship in football like the one between a quarterback and his offensive lineman.

Star 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams confirmed as much in a clip from an upcoming episode of “The Build,” the team’s web series documenting the leadup to the 2025 NFL season.

Speaking to Purdy during a recent training camp session, Williams expressed his deep appreciation for the quarterback’s improbable journey toward becoming San Francisco’s starting signal-caller.

“I still remember the day you made the team,” Williams recalled. “You were just so humble and happy. And I was like … this is what it’s all about. Like, actually seeing a feel-good story.”

The 49ers, of course, chose Purdy with the 262nd and final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, earning the then-22-year-old the moniker of “Mr. Irrelevant.”

Purdy has proven to be anything but irrelevant in the years since. It took him less than two full seasons to lead San Francisco to the Super Bowl and, even in what most considered a down 2024 season, finished third in the NFL in yards per attempt.

Responding to Williams, Purdy expressed surprise that his left tackle would remember what was then a small footnote in the 49ers’ 2022 season, saying, “That’s wild.”

Leaving no doubt how he feels about his quarterback in the present, WIlliams wrapped up his story by hugging Purdy and telling him, “[I’m] proud of you.”

“Thanks brother,” Purdy replied. “Appreciate you, bro. Love you.”
