Monday afternoon’s game between the Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings was nothing but nightmare fuel for the coaches, but it will undoubtedly go down as one of the season’s most entertaining games.

After repeatedly falling behind in the game, the Senators simply wouldn’t go away and eventually secured an 8-7 overtime victory over the Kings. Josh Norris won it less than a minute into overtime after taking a slick drop pass in the slot from Drake Batherson.

Norris’s shot was more like a hard pass than a shot, but it was quick-release and perfectly placed between Kuemper’s legs.

It’s impossible not to feel good for Norris who just had yet another long off-season, rehabbing yet another shoulder injury. Norris finished the afternoon with two goals and an assist.

Batherson, Tim Stutzle, and Brady Tkachuk all had three points. Stutzle has come out of the gate extremely well, with six points in three games.

Nepean native Brandt Clarke played in his hometown for the first time as an NHL player and performed well for LA, posting three assists.

The Senators trailed in this game 2-0, 3-1, 4-2, 5-4, and 6-5, but they just kept coming. Tough guy Zack MacEwen matched his NHL goal total from the past two seasons combined. He scored two goals, including this one-timer from long distance.

The other Ottawa goals came from Jake Sanderson, Drake Batherson, Thomas Chabot, and Claude Giroux, all of them beauties in different ways. Tim Stutzle

Alex Laferriere and Kevin Fiala each scored twice for the Kings, who were outshot by Ottawa 41-26. Both teams were deadly on the power play; the Sens were 4/6, while the Kings went 3/5.

The news wasn’t all good, as the injury bug is busy in Ottawa once again. The Senators were without goalie Linus Ullmark and Ridly Greig. Then Artem Zub left the game after absorbing a hard hit to the head on a clean hit from Tanner Jeannot. MacEwen responded with a few rights to the back of Jeannot’s head.

In Ullmark’s absence, Sens starter Anton Forsberg was yanked after allowing three goals on nine shots. It seemed overly punitive since two of the goals on Forsberg were one-timers with clear lanes, and the other was just a weird bounce off Trevor Lewis’s body.

Sogaard came in and didn’t fare much better, allowing four goals on 17 shots.

On Thanksgiving Monday, the Sens will give thanks for another W. Their next game is Thursday night at home against the New Jersey Devils.
