Steph Kyriacou’s tee shot on the par-3 eighth at Royal Porthcawl didn’t touch grass on Friday. Instead, it flew directly into the cup for a stirring moment at the 49th AIG Women’s British Open.
It marked the Aussie’s first ace on the LPGA, and she followed it with a birdie on the ninth to make the turn in 33. So far through Round 2, Kyriacou has vaulted 74 places up the leaderboard and into the top 20.
This marks the first Women’s British Open ever held at Royal Porthcawl. Officials have billed it the biggest women’s sporting event ever held in Wales. Japan’s Miyu Yamashita leads the way at 11 under after a sparkling 7-under 65.
