The New York Jets have locked down wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

The Jets reached a four-year, $130 million contract extension with Wilson on Monday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Wilson is now the first player from the Jets’ 2022 draft class to receive a contract extension.

Wilson will average $32.5 million a season, and $90 million of his new deal is guaranteed. He is now the first wide receiver in league history to average more than $31 million per season after his first three seasons. The new deal makes Wilson among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league, too. Only four other players, led by Cincinnati Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase’s $40 million a season, earn more than him.

Wilson, who the Jets took with the No. 10 overall pick in 2022 out of Ohio State, has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards a season throughout his career. He had 1,104 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 101 catches last season, all of which were career-highs.

Despite Wilson’s strong start, the Jets have struggled since bringing him in. They went just 5-12 last season and missed the playoffs for a 14th straight campaign while firing head coach Robert Saleh. The team has since hired Aaron Glenn to replace him, and parted ways with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Wilson, who has not missed a game remarkably played alongside seven different quarterbacks already in his career, will get to team up with new quarterback Justin Fields this fall. Fields struck a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets this offseason.

While it will take more than a new quarterback to break the Jets’ postseason drought, locking down Wilson for the next six seasons is an easy move that should only push the franchise in the right direction. Now, the team will look to strike deals with others in his draft class, likely starting with star cornerback Sauce Gardner.
