A teenager who has won more than 50 competitive boxing fights has set his sights on the Olympics, his father has said.

Moken Mills, 15, from Crewkerne, Somerset, has won 19 gold medals from international and national competitions.

On Saturday, Moken claimed a unanimous victory for England in an international duel with a 16-year-old from Scotland, and took home gold.

His dad and coach, Larry Mills, said he was “immensely proud”, adding “the dedication he puts in is unbelievable” and that “if things go our way, we might be able to make an appearance at the Olympics”.

Moken told BBC Radio Somerset he started training at five years old with his dad doing pad-work, before joining Yeovil Boxing Club at seven years old where he “fell in love with it from there”.

He said he trains six days a week while juggling school and homework, adding Saturdays are his rest days so he can work in the local butchers.

Mr Mills, who said their family was from the Romany Gypsy community, said boxing was “in his blood”.

“Unless you’re in the boxing scene you don’t really understand the passion,” he said.

“People think it’s just two people having a tear up, but there’s so much more to it than that. It’s a way of life, live and breathe it.”

Moken now trains at Crewkerne Boxing Club, which has dad set up.

Mr Mills said he wanted Moken to “achieve as much as he can as an amateur boxer”.

“We’re looking for him to turn pro when he’s 18-20 years old,” he added.
