The FIFA president dedicated a few words to ‘Millonario’ for their participation in the international tournament held in the United States.
The FIFA Club World Cup is now in its defining stage to crown the first champion with this new 32-team format in the United States. River Plate could not get past the group stage, but Gianni Infantino has dedicated a message to them on social media to highlight their participation.
Infantino, present at many matches of the competition, also had praiseworthy words for River, which bid farewell to the tournament after falling 0-2 against Inter Milan in the last match of Group E.
“Thank you, River! The great performance in such a competitive group is a source of pride for your passionate fans! We eagerly look forward to having you again on this stage!”, wrote the FIFA president.
The team led by Marcelo Gallardo won 3-1 in their debut against Urawa Red Diamonds, but they did not manage to continue in the race because they drew 0-0 against Monterrey in their second presentation and then were defeated by Inter.
Despite this, River has pocketed $18,210,000 million with their results in a Club World Cup that will be very remembered by all fans around the world for starting a new modality in this competition.
