Thursday was Jordan Spieth’s 297th start on the PGA Tour. It’s also the first time he has withdrawn from an event.

Spieth, the 13-time PGA Tour winner and 2017 champion at the Travelers Championship, withdrew Thursday during the first round. Golf Channel cameras caught Spieth dealing with some sort of injury early on in the round and receiving treatment when he made the turn. Spieth looked in discomfort on nearly every full swing, and he finally decided to WD on the 13th hole.

Spieth was 5 over with five bogeys and no birdies in his 12 holes he completed. Multiple times, he dropped clubs when swinging and looked to be dealing with discomfort in his neck. Golf Channel’s George Savaricas reported Spieth injured his neck while warming up Thursday.

This season, Spieth has made 13 of 15 cuts and has eight top-25 finishes. This was his 10th start in the past 12 weeks as he chases his first win since the 2022 RBC Heritage.
