The NHL regular season has begun but teams are still putting players on waivers, including three today (Oct. 10) that hit the waiver wire.

One of the three players is former San Jose Sharks goalie Kaapo Kahkonen.

The Winnipeg Jets had been carrying three goalies: last season’s Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck, Eric Comrie, and Kahkonen. Hellebuyck missed time late in the preseason with a personal issue but returned for the start of the regular season last night for the Jets’ 6-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Kahkonen signed a one-year, $1 million deal with Winnipeg this summer. In 31 games with the Sharks last season, Kahkonen had a 6-20-3 record, a .895 save %, and a 3.81 GAA. He was eventually traded to the New Jersey Devils, where he played six games and had a record of 1-4.

Teams around the NHL have 24 hours to claim the goalie, but if he goes unclaimed, he will be sent to the AHL.
