Coco Gauff Receives Message From PGA Tour After French Open Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Coco Gauff won the French Open on Saturday, recording her second Grand Slam singles title and maiden Roland Garros crown. The whole internet poured in to congratulate her, including a special salute from the PGA Tour.

In a post celebrating her triumph, the account quipped, “Coco Gauff, two-time major champ and one of us on the golf course”. It also included a screenshot of a story Gauff shared previously where she is playing golf with the caption “gauff but can’t golf”.

In Paris, the 21-year-old American rallied from a set down to defeat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 and become the first U.S. woman to win the French Open since Serena Williams in 2015.

At the same place back in 2022, Gauff reached her first Grand Slam final, facing world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. In a one-sided match, Swiatek overpowered Gauff 6-1, 6-3 to claim a second French Open title.

“I was going through a lot of things when I lost here three years ago,” Gauff said after her victory. “I’m just glad to be back here. I was going through a lot of dark thoughts. Three finals … I guess I got the most important win. That’s all that matters.”

Sabalenka was pretty heartbroken after the loss.

“This hurts so much,” Sabalenka said. “Congratulations to Coco, she was a better player than me. … It was honestly the worst tennis I’ve played in the last, I don’t know how many months. The conditions were terrible, and she simply was better in these conditions. It was the worst final I’ve ever played.”
