As Luka Modric prepares to bid farewell to Real Madrid after the Club World Cup, fresh reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport has thrown AC Milan into the spotlight as a potential next destination for the legendary Croatian.
According to La Gazzetta, the newly re-appointed Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri sees Modric as a dream signing, one who could bring elegance, leadership, and much-needed experience to a team in transition.
Supporting this ambition is the club’s new director, Igli Tare, who, according to Fabrizio Romano, is also said to be pushing for the Croatian icon. Modric’s name has come up during internal discussions, and he is seen as a realistic target despite his age.
Milan’s advantage and challenge
What makes this potential move intriguing is Modric’s openness. Despite having received several offers from clubs across the globe, the 39-year-old midfielder is in no rush to make a decision.
One point in Milan’s favour is that Modric is reportedly not chasing a huge payday. His focus is said to be on finding the right project, one where his class and footballing intelligence are genuinely valued.

That said, challenges exist. Modric will turn 40 in September. Questions will inevitably be raised about his ability to contribute consistently in a demanding league like Serie A.
A sentimental pull
Beyond finances and playing time, Milan might have one emotional card to play, which is Modric’s childhood admiration for the Rossoneri and Zvonimir Boban, a Croatian legend and former Milan midfielder.
That connection could prove decisive in convincing him to join a club that, while not competing in Europe next season, still holds prestige and history.
Modric has long said that he dreamed of ending his career at Real Madrid, but with that door now closed following a touching farewell at the Santiago Bernabeu, Milan could present an appealing final chapter.
A move to the San Siro might not only suit the club’s tactical needs but also offer the Croatian veteran a dignified and symbolic final act.
