Washburn Rural’s Natalie Peterson wins Topeka City Golf Championship
Washburn Rural’s Natalie Peterson was crowned the winner of the Topeka City Golf Championship on Monday. It was Peterson’s first victory with the Junior Blues.
The Kansas State High School State Championship for golf begins Tuesday, May 27. The top golfers across the state will head to different courses to compete in their own classifications. Shawnee County has some great talent that hopes to contend for the top crown.

Washburn Rural’s depth to help in Class 6A
Washburn Rural’s depth has always been a huge boost once the Class 6A State Championship rolls around. The Junior Blues earned third-place in regionals qualifying their roster for the state tournament.
The depth of the team will be extremely important this week. Each player on the team has the capabilities to shoot a low score. In regionals, Tagan Monasmith paced the team with a fourth-place score of 6-over. Tadd Armstrong has played as the No. 1 golfer for the team as he took ninth place in regionals. Brady Goeden and Higgins Hawks along with Michael Wilson and Peyton Goehring provide a strong nucleus to help Washburn Rural reach the second day of play.
Hayden ready to challenge in Class 4A
Hayden will travel to Newton to play at Sand Creek Station for the Class 4A State Championship. The Wildcats were able to qualify their entire team for the state tournament after a second-place finish.
The Wildcats have been playing great this year with James Kuta leading the way. He tied for third place in regionals, two shots off of the regional title. The rest of the roster has the skills to push for a top-three spot. Mateo Garcia, Colin Scott and Tagen Rodriguez have continued to play consistently this season, too. Austin Bean and Nick Gorman round out Hayden’s roster for the state tournament.
Rossville’s Jack Donovan coming off historic round
It was an impressive showing for the Rossville junior in the regional championship. He shot a 4-under round of 68 to win Class 2A’s regional title by 12 shots. The scored tied the school record for the best round in history. He will enter the Class 2A’s State Championship as a favorite to win individually.
