Angelo Leo heads overseas as the American travels to Japan on May 24 to defend the IBF featherweight title against Tomoki Kameda.

The 30-year-old Leo (25-1) is a former WBO super bantamweight champion, losing the belt against Stephen Fulton. He’s on a five-fight win streak, winning four contests via knockout. “El Chinito” took out Luis Alberto Lopez in August to win the featherweight title.

Leo has found his groove after a two-year absence thanks to a ProBox TV partnership. From Plant City, Florida to Japan, and in a new division that he feels at home in, Leo is ready to start a new chapter of his career with a massive win.

“Knocking him out would make a great statement, to be honest. I won’t put that type of pressure on myself, though,” Leo told Uncrowned. “It would really make a statement to knock him out, especially fighting in his hometown. Beating him in his hometown to defend my world title, though, is all I’m really thinking about.”

Kameda (42-4) is a former NABF and WBO bantamweight champion. After failing to capture the WBA title against Jamie McDonnell as well as super bantamweight gold, “El Mexicanito” is 6-1 in his past seven fights. Osaka’s Kameda has 23 wins via knockout.

Rising stars look to impress, while a rematch for strawweight gold is on the Angelo Leo vs. Tomoki Kameda undercard.
