Emma Lee has Round 1 lead at Section 1 Girls Championship

Emma Lee and Nina Choe have been here before.

They are sitting atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Section 1 girls championship at The Links at Union Vale. Lee settled in following a bumpy start, carding 10 pars in a row on the way to a 5-over 75 in blustery conditions. The senior at Scarsdale won the championship in 2022 and 2023. Choe overcame a rocky start, carding four birdies over her final six holes to shoot a 7-over 79. The junior at Ursuline won the championship last spring.

Weather permitting, Lee and Choe will be first on the tee Wednesday at Whippoorwill. In all, 20 players advanced to the final round. The first nine competitors on the leaderboard at the end of the day will be heading to states.
