Dustin Poirier is always up for a fight. However, the “The Diamond” does know when it’s time to hang up the gloves. Poirier’s last fight will be at UFC 318 on July 19 from the Smoothie King Center in his home of Louisiana.

The last dance for Poirier won’t be an easy ride. He faces Max Holloway in a trilogy fight for the BMF Title.

Poirier (30-9, 1 NC) is a former interim champion who is 2-2 in his last four fights. The 36-year-old has faced a who’s who of fighters since turning pro in 2009. He’s tied for multiple UFC records, including most Fight of the Night bonuses (10) and most finishes (6) against current, former, or future UFC champions.

Holloway (26-8) is a former featherweight champion and one of the most lethal punchers in MMA history. “Blessed” is 3-1 in his last four fights, failing to recapture the featherweight title in October. He won the BMF Title following a dramatic buzzer-beater knockout win against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.

They first met in 2012, with Poirier winning via a first-round armbar in Holloway’s UFC debut. The second fight in 2019 was a war, with both landing a combined 359 significant strikes. Poirier also won that one, this time via decision.

Poirier is ready to leave it all in the octagon on fight night. At home, against someone like Holloway, who never takes the easy way out, is precisely how he wants to end his career.

“This whole camp, fight week, everything I’m going to do coming up in these next two months, I’m going to just try to embrace,” Poirier told Uncrowned’s Ariel Helwani via Yahoo. “This is the last time I’m ever going to be put in this position, and feel these nerves, and get to walk out of an arena and fight another man.

“And what a legend — when they gave me Max Holloway — to be standing across from. I said legends only, and he’s definitely all of that.”
