KANSAS CITY, Kan. — NASCAR’s weekend of racing drew tens of thousands of fans to the Kansas City metro this Mother’s Day weekend.

The history of NASCAR spans 77 years, and within that time frame, only 11 races have been held on Mother’s Day, including this Sunday.

And to make this lucky number 11 race even more special, it is also the first time a Mother’s Day race has occurred at Kansas Speedway.

Moms who attended the race received free bouquets when the midway opened this morning, and NASCAR’s working women could pick up free donuts for the holiday.

We caught up with Amanda Ellis, a mom and host of NASCAR’s new podcast “Hauler Talk.” She says balancing a sports career and raising her son is challenging, but oh so rewarding.

“A happy mom means a happy family most of the time, right?” Ellis said. “I have always felt the call to be a working mom. I have always loved sports and have been really grateful that my career has been in sports. I hope I give him the opportunity to know that he can dream and really, truly be anything he wants to be as long as he’s willing to put in the work.”

In Ellis’s podcast, she often breaks down controversial calls from the race and discusses the insiders who make those decisions.

But, while speaking with FOX4 on Sunday morning, she flipped the focus from herself and recognized other groups of women who were also having to work on this special holiday.

“The first responders and mothers who are working at hospitals, or military moms, those are the moms who are really sacrificing,” she said.

Episodes of “Hauler Talk” are released every week after the race. So, if you are interested in tuning in, click here.
