PGA Tour money leader Rory McIlroy tops field

Everyone’s in Philadelphia except the world’s No.1 ranked player in the world. 

The PGA Tour is in the City of Brotherly Love beginning on May 8 for the Truist Championship, a Signature Event that will pay $20 million in all and $3.6 million to the winner at the Philadelphia Cricket Club Wissahickon Course. 

Scottie Scheffler, who won last week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson by tying the Tour record for 72 holes at 31-under-par 253 to move into third place on the money list, is not playing. We’ll next see him in the PGA Championship May 15-18 at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C., the usual venue for the Truist Championship.

But everyone else among the money leaders is here, led by No. 1 Rory McIlroy through No. 36 Jordan Spieth. 

There is no cut this week, which means all 72 players in the field, including McIlroy, will cash a check. But even if McIlroy finishes last, his earnings lead is safe, since he’s more than $6.4 million ahead of second-place Justin Thomas. 

Forty-five of the top 50 money leaders will be playing at Wissahickon.
