It has been a long time since Rickie Fowler ranked among the top players on the PGA Tour, but the former world number four will be playing at the latest signature event this week.
Fowler, a six-time winner on Tour who has finished at least tied-second in three of the four majors and also has a tied-third at the PGA Championship on his resume, has struggled for top form in recent times. Since the start of the 2024 season, Fowler has just one top-10 finish to his name, having recorded eight in the 2022-23 campaign.
But he will be present at the Truist Championship this week.
Despite his inability to threaten to win in 2024 and so far in 2025, Fowler has received a sponsor’s exemption to play this week at The Philadelphia Cricket Club (Wissahickon Course) in Flourtown, Pa.
Jordan Spieth and Gary Woodland have also been granted exemptions.
While he has not cracked the top 10 so far in 2025, Fowler does have two top-25 finishes to his name this season. He has also made the cut in eight of the nine events he has played this year.
With no cuts at signature events, Fowler can once again look forward to playing the weekend, though it is debatable how worthy he is of doing so in a tournament largely reserved for the PGA Tour’s best.
