Lopez (20-1), 27, accomplished so much at a young age. “The Takeover” dethroned Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2020 to become the unified lightweight champion. Losing the belts against George Kambosos Jr., he moved up to 140 and has won five straight. He beat Josh Taylor for the WBO and Ring super lightweight belts.

While not taking Barboza lightly, the 2015 Golden Gloves Champion believes his resume trumps his opponents. He’s ready to prove it on fight night.

“Stylistically, he’s a strong fighter. We’ve seen those in the past, and I don’t think he had that eye or fanbase,” Lopez said. “He’s 32-0 and he just got an interim world title. At 15 fights, I got my first world title and I won it at Madison Square Garden and then became disputed at 16 fights. I’m only 27.”

Barboza (32-0) has beaten the likes of Jose Pedraza, Jose Carlos Ramirez, and Jack Catterall in an impressive five-fight run. The 33-year-old won the interim WBO belt against Catterall and believes his rise to the top is coming at the perfect time. For Barboza, the time for fun and games is over.

“I think Teo is fighting me at the worst time he could fight me. I’m coming off of two victories in a five-month span,” Barboza said. “The train is going, and I think that I’m going to shock the world again.”
