Garcia (24-1) beat Devin Haney in 2024. However, the fight was turned into a no-contest after the former tested positive for Ostarine. It is Garcia’s first fight in over a year after being suspended. A former WBA super lightweight champion, Romero (16-2) is 2-2 in his last four fights.
Speaking of Haney (31-0), the former undisputed lightweight champion faces former super lightweight champion Jose Carlos Ramirez (29-2), who is 3-1 in his last four fights. Haney and Garcia could face off again if both win their fights. However, Ramirez is looking to play spoiler in a new division.
“Going back to old times, a fighter used to lose to one fighter, then beat the other fighter,” Ramirez said. “You can’t say that about boxing. It’s a different division with a different Jose Ramirez.”
Meanwhile, Teofimo Lopez returns to action. A former unified lightweight champion,” The Takeover” (20-1) puts his WBO and The Ring super lightweight titles on the line against interim champion Arnold Barboza Jr. (32-0).
Lopez and Barboza have engaged in a heated war of words leading up to the fight. A confident Barboza expects to walk out of Times Square with gold around his waist.
“May 2, I’m coming out victorious. Doesn’t matter how it happens, it happens. Teo sucks, and I’m going to beat him up, that’s it. He is not going to be the same after this, trust me,” Barboza said.
