PWCC tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. each day during the competition.

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY – Whistling Straits will host the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship for the first time May 5 to 7.

The three-day tournament will bring 180 student-athletes — 27 teams and 45 individuals — from historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions and other Minority-Serving Institutions that support students from diverse backgrounds.

Student-athletes will compete for Men’s Division I and II, Women’s Team division and individual titles. Nearly two dozen colleges and universities represented include Howard University, Alabama State University and Texas Southern University.

The women’s team from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and men’s DI and DII division teams from Florida A&M University and Chaminade University of Honolulu, respectively, will return to defend 2024 titles.

Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. each day of the tournament. First, second and final rounds will take place at the Straits and Irish courses, with awards presented around 6 p.m.

PWCC was first established in the late 1980s as the National Minority College Championship with the goal of providing student-athletes of color an opportunity to participate in a championship competition at a time they were excluded from collegiate golf events, according to the tournament’s website.

The tournament was hosted at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, Shoal Creek & Bent Brook in West Virginia and Union League of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania over the last three years.

Milwaukee and Sheboygan youth will learn about industry and careers with golf professionals

Ahead of the PWCC, the PGA of America, Kohler Co. and Whistling Straits will host a Youth Day May 3 and PGA WORKS Beyond the Green program May 4.

Up to 100 junior players between 8 and 14 years old will partake in golf activities and learn about golf careers during Youth Day at the Whistling Straits practice facilities. Players will represent Sheboygan schools, the Boys and Girls Clubs and other organizations.

The next day, PEARLS for Teen Girls, a Milwaukee organization creating space for girls in the fifth through 12th grade to explore personal and professional development, and MKE Fellows, a Milwaukee organization supporting young Black men to achieve academic success and graduate from college career ready, will participate in Beyond the Green programming. The event aims to educate and inspire youth from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue golf-related careers.

They will tour the Kohler Design Center and participate in a golf clinic at Blackwolf Run led by PGA of America golf professionals.
