Paris Saint-Germain have plenty of midfield quality, but physical presence remains a weak spot. Fabian Ruiz is the tallest regular at 6-foot-2 (1.89m), and there’s a clear drop-off in size beyond him.

Senny Mayulu brings some height at 6 feet (1.83m), but outside of the 18-year-old, PSG lack real physicality in the middle of the park. That could lead the club to look for a more imposing midfielder this summer—ideally someone who fits Luis Enrique’s possession-first approach without compromising fluidity.

Another possible move: bringing in a seasoned veteran to help balance the club’s young midfield core.

With that in mind, Arsenal insider Charles Watts recently reported that the Gunners haven’t opened contract talks with Thomas Partey, whose deal runs out this summer. Barcelona, Juventus, and PSG are all said to be monitoring the situation closely.

According to ESPN, Arsenal will require one key condition from Partey in any new contract talks—he’ll have to agree to a pay cut if he wants to stay in north London, despite his strong performances.

In his most recent column for CaughtOffside, Watts updated the situation regarding Partey and noted that the Gunners’ stance regarding keeping the veteran midfielder has changed.

“Partey is out of contract in the summer, and so far, there have been no formal talks over a new deal. His representatives were in London recently and watched the Real Madrid game, but that visit did not include discussions with the club over his future.

“So we’ll have to see what happens over the coming weeks when it comes to the Ghana international. I know he is happy and settled in London with his family and he would be open to staying, with a new two-year deal understood to be something he and his representatives view as acceptable.

“But you could understand why Arsenal would be reluctant to extend Partey’s stay, with his injury record far from impressive during his time in North London.”
