Swansea had encouraging spells under former boss Luke Williams, whose team were within four points of the play-off places after post-Christmas wins over Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town.

But amid speculation linking Williams with a move to West Bromwich Albion – and a dispiriting January transfer window – Swansea’s form collapsed from the turn of the year.

A run of seven defeats in nine league games left Swansea glancing nervously towards the bottom three, yet Sheehan has overseen a dramatic change in fortunes.

Sheehan, who is in charge until the end of the season as things stand, will lead Swansea in their penultimate match of the campaign at Millwall on Saturday hoping to extend a run of five successive victories.
