North Carolina basketball roster news

The Tar Heels landed their first commitment via the transfer portal when West Virginia’s Jonathan Powell chose UNC on Tuesday. Powell started 23 games for the Mountaineers last season, averaging 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He finished second in the Big 12 in 3-pointers made by a freshman (62), shooting 35.2% on the season. He connected on three or more 3-pointers nine times last season, giving the Tar Heels a legitimate shooting threat on the perimeter.

Another player to watch is Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar, who is set to visit campus on Wednesday. Veesaar put his name in the transfer portal just four days after Arizona’s loss to Duke in the NCAA Tournament. Veesaar was ranked the No. 36 player in the 2022 class by 247Sports and has two years of eligibility remaining. The 7-footer averaged 9.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists, while knocking down 59.2% of his field goals last season. Get the latest North Carolina basketball roster news from InsideCarolina.
