San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” in a recent car accident, according to a team statement.
The 49ers coach will be “limited” with the team the 49ers enter training camp on July 25.

“San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers,” the team said in a statement.
“Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care. Assistant Head Coach Chris Foerster along with team coordinators will handle head coach responsibilities during this period.”
Palo Alto Police had not responded to USA TODAY Sports’ request for the accident report as of early Saturday afternoon.

The 49ers’ training camp is set for its first practice on July 26, ahead of their 2026 season opener on Thursday, Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The 46-year-old Shanahan is in his 10th season with the team. He has a regular season record of 82-46 and a 9-5 mark in the postseason. He has twice taken San Francisco to the Super Bowl in 2019 and 2023, with both losses coming to the Kansas City Chiefs.
